Travel Promotion Act Passes Senate

Bill Travels to President's Desk

Last night, the U.S. Senate approved the Travel Promotion Act (TPA) on a bipartisan vote of 78-18.

Under TPA, a non-profit corporation with up to $200 million in funding would be created to promote the United States as a travel destination and to better detail U.S security and entry policies.

In October 2009, the House of Representatives approved an identical bill, which means the legislation now moves to President Obama for his signature.

Expectations are that by the end of the year the corporation will be established, the $10 fee implemented, a president hired, a board appointed and strategic plans will be created.

Oxford Economics found that the legislation could help attract 1.6 million additional visitors from other countries and create more than $4 billion annually in consumer spending.

STS congratulates U.S. Travel Association President Roger Dow and his staff for their tireless efforts in helping secure passage of this Act.

Many thanks to all the STS members who urged their Senators or Representative to support this Bill.
